Transforming Spaces into Stories
What began as a childhood passion for rearranging rooms alongside my mother has evolved into a lifelong dedication to the art of interior design.
What can I say — I have always loved to decorate and create.
Some of my earliest memories are of decorating our home alongside my mother, who had her own natural flair and passion for interior design. She had an eye for beauty, for making a space feel warm and welcoming, and I was always by her side — watching, learning, absorbing. Rearranging furniture, adding seasonal touches, refreshing a room with small but meaningful details — it felt like magic to me. Looking back, that is where it all began.
Not long after, I remember walking to a neighbor’s garage sale and coming home with items they were planning to discard. To me, it felt like striking gold. I ran home with my treasures and transformed them into a space that was entirely my own.At the time, we lived in what felt like a concrete jungle — no grassy yards or leafy trees — but I had imagination. I drew inspiration from photographs and places we visited, and I turned a small patch of driveway into an inviting little retreat where I hosted neighborhood tea parties. Yes, I was different — and I embraced it.
As I grew older, I gravitated toward interior design, sewing, and home economics electives — the classes where creativity thrived and where I excelled. Long before vision boards were popular, I was creating them in the 80s, dreaming of one day owning my own interior design business. Shows like Designing Women and Will & Grace only fueled that vision
But life unfolds in seasons.
I began working in high school and went on to build a successful 25-year career in the finance industry. It was steady, responsible, and practical — yet my love for design never faded. I designed my own home, helped friends with theirs, and became known for hosting thoughtfully curated gatherings throughout the years.
Two years ago, my partner and I purchased a home through an estate sale, acquiring much of the original furnishings. As I began reimagining the space, I invited an interior designer to consult on repainting and reupholstering several pieces. As she walked through my home, she paused and asked, “Are you an interior designer?”
I smiled and replied, “In my mind, I am.”
She looked at me and said, “Oh, but you are.”That moment came at a turning point in my life — when I was ready to reinvent myself and step fully into who I had always been.
And so, I did.
Bespoke Decor by Anita was born from a lifelong love of transforming spaces, celebrating the beauty of each season, and creating environments that feel layered, welcoming, and deeply personal.
